Row 24 Repeat row 23 until row 33 Cast off (56 sts.) MAKING UP GENERAL - Use the same colour wool to sew up as has been used to knit the pieces. Sew the pieces on their reverse sides (inside out) so that when they are turned back the right way, before stuffing, the seams are less conspicuous. BODY - Sew both pieces (front and back are the same) together leaving the neck end open. Stuff, then sew up neck opening. FEET - Sew two pieces together to make a foot, leaving one end open. Stuff, then sew up open end. Repeat for other foot. LEGS - Using one piece only, sew up cast on edge and sides together. Stuff, then sew up open end. Repeat for other leg. HEAD - Sew both pieces (front and back are the same) together, keeping the cast off edges together (this is the top of the head), leaving the neck end open. Stuff, then sew up open end. HAND & ARM - Using one piece only, fold piece to make a tube. Sew up the length of the tube starting at the hand end. Leave the shoulder end of the arm open. Stuff, sew up open end. Repeat for other hand/arm. FACE MASK - Place the two pieces together (like a sandwich). Sew the rib ends (cast on edges) of both pieces together, then sew the corresponding sides of both pieces together so you are left with a pocket shape. Do not sew up the other (cast off) edge. EARS - Using one piece only, fold in half, then sew end and sides together. Repeat for other ear. T SHIRT - Sew both pieces of the T Shirt together, leaving the shoulder seams open. (This is to enable the T Shirt to go over the monkey's head). PUTTING TOGETHER Sew feet firmly to legs. Sew legs to body. Then sew head to body. Place face mask on the front of the head, sewing the ribbed end of the mask to the face, in the 'mouth' position. (See diagram on web page). Open out the face mask (like turning a sock inside out) and fold back onto the face of the monkey, and sew around its edges. If you are using plastic eyes (not suitable if the monkey is for a child, in which case make the eyes of wool) then fit these through the eye mask. Place the eye mask in the 'eye' position and sew it to head, rounding-off the corners of the eye mask as you go. Sew the ears to the side of the head in line with the eyes. Sew on the arms. Next fit the T shirt onto the monkey, and sew along the shoulder seams. (c)2001 Marion Kinchin http://www.eveshamdallimores.fsnet.co.uk/knitting.htm e-mail: marion@eveshamdallimores.fsnet.co.uk
